Horror editor extraordinaire Ellen Datlow gathers another cream of the crop in the third of her "Best Horror of the Year" series.

Highlights include:

-"At the Riding School": what appears to be a girl's private school harbors a really dark and disturbing secret.

-"Just Outside our Windows, Deep Inside our Walls": a secluded boy befriends the girl next door. Unfortunately, there's a reason why he is secluded...

"Lesser Demons": a small-town sheriff battles Lovecraftian abominations. A taut, horrifying tale that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go.

"Transfiguration": a truck driver in the Alaskan wilderness has some ideas about morality and his role in life. Chilling in more ways than one.

"Black and White Sky": "The Birds" inspired this tale about an unusual phenomenon in Great Britain.

I enjoyed all the stories by some degree and this volume is well worth reading.
