Just before reading this I had read a book by Stephen King and another by Ursula K Le Guin, both excellent authors. The writing in The 5th Wave, really isn't in the same league. Fairly early on, I considered abandoning it but it does improve, gradually. It is no-doubt-about-it written for young readers - high school, middle school.

It has some good tropes, such as: if you can't tell the difference between the good guys and the bad guys, and neither can anybody else, then you can't trust anybody. Anybody could be your mortal foe. How do you deal with that.

It kind of leaves us hanging. It reaches climax and then The End. Or, really, To Be Continued. We've met the characters. They've met one another. If you want to find out what happens next you gotta read the next book. I probably won't.
