An OK story, not one of Leinster's better works. The exposition is drawn out and slow paced, as though Leinster was being paid by the word and needed to pad the story to make rent.

There is a surprise ending, which is revealed in pieces as the climax approaches. That gives it a little value to the interested reader.

As is true of many works of this era, it is suffused with a kind of American exeptionalism and undercurrents of anti-communism which pervaded the culture of the time and weakens the impact of the story now.
