The Buried Giant

Ishiguro tells us a tale of enchanting dragons, child-stealing ogres and sword-weilding knights. It has everything you want in sword and sorcery, and high fantasy, but this is all just a clever facade because beneath the surface it's a powerful story of true love, redemption, revenge, and the substance at the heart of all of humanity, good and bad. It's a philosophically thought provoking picture of life and love and loss.

I challenge you to read this without shedding a tear, bellowing a laugh, screaming with both frustration and delight. Walking away after closing the cover on this masterpiece, I felt I'd grown as a person upon a journey that has no end, but rather follows the beautiful and humane circle of life evermore.
