The beginning of the 75 issue, or in this case 9 graphic novel, saga. Gaiman explores the character but also the world around him - DC superheroes and settings appear with a frequency diminished in later books.
I borrowed and read single issues back in the early 1990s, then purchased the graphic novels to reread later. I haven't touched the series in 20 years, so this is an excellent time to read them again. By the end of this graphic novel (issue #8) it feels like the author has gained his stride. Looking forward to re-reading the next one (issues 9-16) soon!
