Not my favourite Culture novel, but still an excellent novel nonetheless. I hugely enjoy how every Culture novel adds a new, massive aspect to the universe that could easily carry an entire series - in this case, Shellworlds and all their implications. While I found the actual plot surprisingly slow here, it's still a fine example of a sci-fi novel.
