A Hugo worthy swashbuckling adventure in a colorfully detailed town set in a fantastic world with much of the same feel as a 17th century euopean country, but with magic.
The story is finely told and the world carefully evoked. The only weakness is the rather rushed ending which conflicts with the immediately previous events. The heroes overcome a villain who has incredible powers at one stage, but is strangely weak at the end.
Still and all, a fun read for those more attacted to sword and sorcery than more typical science fiction.
