This was my first Robert Silverberg read, and it was certainly a weird one.
This pseudo-novella covers a group of political prisoners that get sent back in time to the Precambrian epoch to serve their life sentences. There's some discussion about revolutions, and which methods they should use in order to be most effective. It's has political commentary, but not so much that it becomes suffocating.
It's a really strange concept, but an enjoyable one. The characters are interesting, and develop nicely over time. I found myself enjoying the Hawksbill Station chapter more than the prologue ones, though those got better with time. My biggest critique is that there isn't all that much here. I think it's a little too short and shallow to properly discuss the ideas and themes that it wants too. It would've been fun if Silverberg explored this idea a little more in a longer work.
