One of the classics of science fiction and modern literature as well, Stranger in a Strange Land tells the story of Martian Valentine Michael Smith who attempts to live as a Martian on Earth. In Heinlein's universe, Martians are equipped with all kinds of abilities, like teleportation, mind-control, telepathy, and ESP. But they are highly naive about Earth ways.

Earth is extremely corrupt compared to Martian culture, and Valentine's adjustment to the planet is one of acute culture clash. Yet, Earth people begin to take a liking to him, he gathers a following, and is soon influencing those around him to become more peaceful, tolerant, and understanding of one another.

It can be read as a religious parable, or as a simple, entertaining SF tale. Either way, it is rather thought-provoking, highly intelligent, and very memorable.
