I don't usually review books, but this novel has to be commented upon. I am a major fan of Vinge, and several of his books are on my favorites list, including the first two books of this series. Vinge is excellent when it comes to far-future novels. This is a departure from his speciality that reads like a filler to pan out a series, a contract obligation, or at least something rushed. It focuses on the survivors from the Blight and how they are living with the Tines (a continuation of the story from Book 2). The Tine world is only just entering its technological age, so there is little chance for Vinge to use his incredible imagination of future tech. Instead, he has to focus on political intrigue which reads like a hollywood movie of unneccessary and unbelievable plot twists with main characters seeming to switch allegences at will. I even skipped a couple of chapters that are a description of a travelling 'circus'. I don't know what else to say!
