I found the writing a bit stilted and formal which I felt put the characters, even Sparrowhawk the main character whose feelings we know, at a bit of an emotional distance from the reader. As I read I became more engaged in the story and with Sparrowhawk (AKA Ged) as he followed his path. I really enjoyed this tale of a young wizard learning his way in the world, being imperfect, making mistakes – some very big, and then ultimately facing down his personal demons.
