I've always more or less equated Jules Verne and H, G. Wells and even had some confusion as to whom had written what. I recently read Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. I wondered how H. G. Well's writing compared, so I read this, The War of the Worlds.

The nineteenth century phrasing of the the two authors is somewhat similar, though I found Verne to be more formal sounding and stilted. The War of the Worlds is quite readable and enjoyable. Based on having read these two books, I found Wells to be by far the more engaging author.
