Kurt Vonnegut is an absurdist.

The first time I read Cat's Cradle, many years ago, I didn't think it was all that great. Before rereading it now, the only thing I could remember about it was the Ice-9. The Ice-9 isn't really what it's about. That's just a device. I still don't know what it is that Cat's Cradle is really about except that it's about more than just the Ice-9. I am bemused. It is because Kurt Vonnegut is an absurdist.

With regards to the rating: the writing and the pleasure of reading earns it a high three stars. Vonnegut's balls and smirkiness in writing such an absurd story pushes it to four.
