Read this as part of the RYO SF Masterworks Reading Challenge and really enjoyed the book. To call this book a classic of military science fiction is an understatement and it is deserving of all of it's accolades. Striking a delicate balance between contemplation of war and that of wild societal change and upheaval, The Forever War captivated and enthralled me to the point where I finished it within 24 hours of starting. A young physicist is drafted into a war against an alien race. Due to the time dilation caused during interstellar travel, the universe outside his ship is elapsing centuries while he only ages months. Within the five years of his subjective life that passes in the book, over 1,000 years will pass outside in the greater universe. He discovers that a lot can change in that time, to the point where it is almost unrecognizable. Recommended reading.
