Biography

Born in Oklahoma City, Joe Haldeman traveled widely as a child. He received a BS in Astronomy from the University of Maryland in 1967. He served in Vietnam in the late sixties, an experience which influenced much of his writing.

His best known works, The Forever War and Forever Peace (both received the Hugo and Nebula awards) drew heavily on his experience fighting in Vietnam. He also wrote books inspired by the Star Trek series. Overall, Haldeman has won three Hugos, two Nebulas and a Campbell award in the novel category and is currently an adjunct professor teaching writing at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has also served twice as president of the Science Fiction Writers of America.
