Biography
John Buchan, 1st Baron Tweedsmuir, began a legal career, but soon turned to writing, diplomacy, and politics. He served as a member of Parliament and as the Chancellor of Edinburgh University, and finished his career as the Governor General of Canada, at the same time authoring over a hundred books, both fiction and non-fiction. He is best known for adventure fiction such as The Thirty-Nine Steps (famously adapted by Alfred Hitchcock in 1935) and his studies of Scottish history.
