Biography

Isobelle Carmody is an Australian writer of science fiction, fantasy, children's literature, and young adult literature. She grew up in Melbourne and then Geelong, looking after her seven brothers and sisters - whom she kept in line by telling horror stories. She began work on the highly acclaimed Obernewtyn Chronicles at the age of fourteen, and continued writing them while completing a Bachelor of Arts in literature and philosophy, and working in public relations and journalism. She is now working toward a PhD through the University of Queensland.

She has written more than 25 novels and 40 shorter stories, many of which have been nominated for, or received, awards, including the Aurealis, Ditmar, and James Tiptree, Jr Awards.

Carmody is married to a jazz musician from the Czech Republic. She currently divides her time between her home on the Great Ocean Road in Australia and her travels abroad with her partner and daughter, spending a year each in her two residences in Australia and Prague. She was Guest of Honour at the 2007 Australian National Science Fiction Convention, Convergence 2, held in Melbourne in June 2007.
