Random quote: "War is a way of shattering to pieces, or pouring into the stratosphere, or sinking in the depths of the sea, materials which might otherwise be used to make the masses too comfortable, and hence, in the long run, too intelligent." - George Orwell - (Added by: Administrator) |

Uber User Posts: 369 Location: Middle TN, USA | I know today is the 31st so this is jumping the gun, but I have overnight guests tomorrow and then I work two doubles, so there! The focus of August for me is going to be the 12 for 12 and Unloved. I am close to closing these two challenges out and I would like to stamp complete on a couple more challenges. Ancillary Justice - Ann Leckie (12 for 12 and Somewhere out there) I am 80 pages in, and the hype is valid for me on this one. Exit Kingdom - Alden Bell - (Unloved) I just can't figure out why he is not a bigger star in the literary world. His first novel, The Reapers Are the Angels was one of the best novels I have ever read. Heart-Shaped Box - Joe Hill (12 for 12, Clear the Shelves) Hollow City - Ransom Riggs (Unloved, Read the sequel) I started this one last month but had to go back on waiting list befor I finished. Double Star - Robert Heinlein (50's challenge) And whatever else I feel like.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 536 Location: Great Lakes, USA | August Reads Blood of the Cosmos - Sequel, 2015, Space Opera Edge of Dark - WoGF, 2015 Altered Carbon - to finish the Detective Challenge Seveneves - 2/3s of the way through this one, but had to return it. I am 107th on the list to get it back, so I may not finish this one until Sept. Words of Radiance - 300 pages into this one. Hope to finish if I don't get any more library holds that I have to read.

Uber User Posts: 595 Location: New Zealand | I have seven books left to complete the challenges for this year. They are: Ubik (1960's SF) The Ship That Sang (1960's SF) Blood Trade (A to Z) Grave Peril (A to Z) New Earth (A to Z) Moonshine (A to Z) Vortex (A to Z) And because Vortex is book 3, I am going to re-read books 1 and 2 (Spin and Apex) first.

Veteran Posts: 106 Location: scotland | I am re-reading Insomnia by Stephen King. Then I will read Gardens of The Moon, looking forward to this as there seems to be so much chatter about this book and series.
