I've got one slot left in my Books Published in 2014 Challenge. But when I try to add Sarah Lotz' "The Three", it does not give me the option to add to that challenge (though it does give me the option to add it to one of my other challenges with open slots). I've pulled up several other books, and they all give me the option to add to the "Books Published in 2014" Challenge. So it seems to be an error particular to Lotz' book (I've refreshed the page, closed it, and done a new search to call up the record again, and it's still a problem).

The New Books of 2014 reading challenge is set to science fiction and fantasy whereas "The Three" is tagged as a Horror book. The challenge host, daxxh, will have to edit his challenge to include horror before you'll be able to add The Three to your challenge list.

Uber User Posts: 154 | Alternatively, I could add a genre to The Three. It's marketed as horror but it's really a genre bender. One could easily consider it a science fiction novel (and it's been tagged that way by several users on Goodreads); after all, it's a near-future apocalyptic book. It's also *awesome*. Good choice, Illegible. Would that be okay with you, Dave? That's how I generally categorize books that don't fit cleanly into a singular genre. Edited by FeminineFantastique 2014-07-06 7:48 AM

Uber User Posts: 1057 | Glad to hear it, FF. I thought the reviews/synopses I'd read sounded fantastic.

Admin Posts: 3996 Location: Dallas, Texas | Good point, FF. If the genre fits you can update the book. Should have mentioned that before. That won't solve what could be an ongoing issue if members want to read 2014 horror books for the challenge.

Uber User Posts: 154 | True. Are there horror popular vote awards? Like, would it serve any purpose to add horror to the available genres for the 2014 challenge? I added SF to The Three's genre categories, so it should be add-able now.

The Scream Awards hosted by Spike TV apparently went defunct after 2011. This Is Horror Awards looks as though it's public nominating and voting -- though in November each year. And of course, Goodreads has Readers' Choice awards in all categories every year.

daxxh - 2014-07-07 5:27 AM I added horror to the Challenge. Sorry about that. I don't read much horror. No worries, thanks! From reading the synopsis for "The Three", it sounds as if it's one of those works which can be considered both SFF and Horror.

Uber User Posts: 154 | The bulk of it is also a blend of an oral history and an epistolary novel. Chapters are interviews, blog posts, chat logs, self-recordings for a memoir, stuff like that. Such a cool narrative format. I couldn't review this one as I couldn't put it down long enough to bother taking notes. I read that 500 pager in <24 hours.
