I have Paladin of Souls sitting here and I have not read Lois McMaster Bujold before. Can I read just Paladin of Souls or is it advisable to read The Curse of Chalion first?

I guess it depends on how completist you are about your reading. Yes, you can read Paladin on its own, it's a separate story, but you start learning about this world and its religion in Chalion and Paladin's heroine is a minor character there. If you are willing to get invested in this world, I'd say, read Chalion first, but if it's just something to read, then go on, read Paladin. Both books are great.

Yea I am not much of a completist when it comes to series in general but I am when it comes to awards and lists. I did not realise that "The Curse of Chalion" scores at least a highly as "Paladin of Souls" when it comes to listings and awards. Going to have to read it first.
