You've got one in Sir Michael Sevenson.

Although there hasn't been a knight errant in over two hundred years, this young noble has decided to revive the trade. He's found himself a reluctant partner in Fisk, a clever rogue who has been given the choice of serving as Michael's squire or going to jail for a very long time. Now Michael and Fisk are on a quest to right wrongs, protect the innocent, and make the world a happier place.

It's not going to be easy. On their first attempt at rescuing a damsel in distress, they break a lady out of a tower, only to discover she was there for good reason: awaiting trial for poisoning her husband. Now the would-be heroes must find Lady Ceciel and return her to justice or be condemned themselves.

Sir Michael Sevenson and his squire, Fisk, can't seem to keep out of hot water. After five long years, Fisk has been called home to Ruesport to investigate who framed his sister Anna's husband, Max, as a blackmailer. Anna figures that Fisk, with his criminal past, is uniquely qualified to find out who set Max up. Of course Michael feels he has to come along to help his friend; but now he wears the tattoos of the unredeemed and fears he might be more hindrance than help.

Friends Are More Trouble Than Foes...

Sir Michael Sevenson and his squire, Fisk, were just beginning to enjoy the quiet life. They really should have known better. When Lady Rosamund runs away from home to marry a traveling player, former knight errant Michael makes a noble promise to help the object of his unrequited love. The quest takes our would-be heroes to the coastal town of Huckerston, where savage sea pirates called wreckers terrorize the coast. With the help of a reluctant Fisk, Michael plans on catching the wreckers and winning back his lady; but when mysterious murders and dangerous accidents threaten the town and its players, love might be the least of his problems....

Knights errant aren't supposed to let the bad guy escape... But Sir Michael and his squire Fisk were up to their necks in mayhem (as usual) and Fisk's old mentor, Jack Bannister, quietly slithered away. Now Michael has tracked Jack to the notorious city of Tallowsport-and it turns out Jack wasn't exaggerating when he said that the crime boss he works for runs the town. With the judicars and the sheriff working for the bad guys, a lone knight errant aided only by his trusty squire and a pack of ragtag orphans shouldn't stand a chance. But the thing that really gets in Michael's way is that Fisk refuses to see his old teacher hang.

I was done with being a squire... When squire Fisk quarreled with his knight errant, Michael Sevenson, neither of them wanted to meet again. So of course, just six weeks later they find themselves in side-by-side cells, when Michael is accused of murdering the man who got his brother Benton fired from the university. Michael needs to help his brother and Fisk needs to get out of jail-so when Michael's sister bails them out, on the condition that they work together to find the man who framed Benton, Michael and Fisk are forced to agree to her terms. But will unraveling the tangled web of blackmail, sabotage and murder bring knight and squire back together? Or will it drive them apart for good?

Rescuing a damsel in distress should be the perfect job for a knight errant...

Unfortunately this damsel is the liege heir's mistress, and figuring out what happened to her will bring Michael into close contact with the court--the last thing an unredeemed man, who is dead to the law, needs. Not to mention that news of his ex-squire Fisk's engagement might get back to Kathy's father--which might be worse than a brush with the law!

But the heir's mistress is Kathy's best friend, and it looks like she really has been kidnapped. Pursuing an abducted damsel across the realm, with no help from the law, would be tricky enough. When you throw in an assassin who's vowed to slaughter unredeemed men, the task becomes downright daunting. But it's nothing a knight errant can't handle... if he can figure out how to work with a partner who is no longer his squire.
